Thank you for these wonderful, wide ranging recommendations. I have read "Benjamin West" myself and really enjoyed it and my copy is waiting for Iris to grow up. We have a few poetry picture books but Iris is not so keen. She seems to prefer the nursery rhyme ones and will easily learn them off by heart. Most of our books have beautiful art so I think that helps her appreciation levels anyway.
I have a very old nursery rhyme book illustrated by Tasha Tudor which my youngest loved. I could rattle it off in my sleep I'd read it so much. She was in her teens, I think when I found the Emily Dickinson book & the lovely artwork helped her connect with the poetry.
Mine is a 1950's edition that I found in an op shop two years ago for $3. It is very British and it is her favourite book. I am chuckling in sympathy with you because I also know some of the more bizarre, longer rhymes but cannot memorise my own poetry! Tasha Tudor anything brings delight.
Thank you Carol, there are some new ones in this list for me! I’m excited to add some to my collection over time 💗
You're welcome, Miriam.
I loved reading through this - thank you!
